Shop Scanner

Virtually every shop, manufacturer, retailer, and supplier uses barcodes. Barcodes are printed and applied to products, and these barcodes can be used to quickly return a price on a purchased item. This same barcode is also used to record stock and inventory levels for the shop. Inventory management can be automated so that when stock reaches a minimum level, more items are automatically ordered from the wholesaler. This is just one way in which the modern barcode system can be used in a shop. As well as having an effective POS and stock management system, you will also need to buy shop barcode readers, which can come in a variety of styles and models.

Flatbed scanners are those that sit in a specific position and items are passed over the scanner. These are commonly used at the till, and may also be used on self-service checkouts. They are robust and, when combined with a conveyor system, they are relatively easy to use. However, with some large and bulky items, as well as those with a unique shape, they might struggle to read the barcode labels on certain items.

Handheld scanners are ideal for situations where a flatbed scanner is unable to read the code. These can be directed at the barcode, and they can be moved closer to the label to get a proper reading.

PDA scanners might also be used for stock management. They can be carried around by employees who are able to scan items as they them from the stock room to the shop front, recording details of where stock is located.
